New York Magic W-League Team Endure "Close Call" with Washington Freedom

The New York Magic W- League team played a very exciting and competitive game against the 2007 W-League Champion, Washinton Freedom on Satuday, June 14 in Boyds, Maryland. The game was was tied, 1-1, with 4 minutes remaining in the game....when Magic defender Eleri Earnshaw cleared a ball off the goal line with her head,.....that the referee ruled a goal!!

The Magic went ahead (1-0) in the 46th minute of play when veteran forward Noelle Meeke came up big off of an assist from young Donna Kay Henry.  Meeke, impressed the crowd again by putting the ball into the Freedom net right before the half.  The goal was assisted by young Magic FW, DK Henry, who frustrated the Freedom defense several times during the game. 

After the 64 minute in the game, Freedom center MF, Lori Lindsey, scored a goal to tie the game and Magic players held off the continuous attacking by Freedom until the 86 minute.  The  Freedom scored a controversial goal from a corner kick and finished the game with 1-2. (Game Stats)

New York Magic W-League team will face a local rival team, Long Island Rough Riders, on Wednesday, June 18 at 8pm at Manhattan College/Gaelic Park field in Riverdale, NY.   Come out and Catch the Magic!!  Go Magic!!!
